Carpet Care Tips for Your Lake of the Ozarks Home or Business
Properly caring for your carpet can extend its life substantially, as well as keep it looking beautiful.
- How often should I have my carpet professionally cleaned?
In low-traffic areas, you can go up to 18 months between cleanings. For high traffic areas you should consider having the carpet professional cleaned at least twice per year, or even quarterly. Homes with pets, smokers, small children should have the carpets professionally cleaned two to four times each year.
- What's the best way to keep the carpet as clean as possible between professional cleanings?
The best way is to keep dirt off the carpet in the first place! Take shoes off before walking on carpet, or at a minimum put a heavy duty doormat at each door.
- How often should I vacuum my carpet?
At least once per week. For high traffic areas, go for twice per week. If you a see visible dirt on the carpet, vacuum immediately.
- Is there a "best way" to vacuum carpets for maximum effectiveness?
Absolutely! Let's face it, most people hate to vacuum. When they do pull the vacuum out, they whip through the job quickly. The most effective way to vacuum is slowly, with multiple passes. Spend most of your time where dirt collects, around doors and high traffic areas. At least eight to twelve slow passes with the vacuum in these areas each time you vacuum will help keep them looking great. For other areas of the home with less foot traffic, two to four passes will do if you are vacuuming once per week.
- What's the best way to clean up a spill on carpet?
The key to cleaning spills is to blot, not rub. Rubbing a spill actually pushes it into the pile more and can matte the carpet.
Blot with a dry towel until the liquid is absorbed. Then make your own cleaning solution with warm water and dish soap. The sooner you can clean the spill after it happens, the better.
